Sky Sports to Feature Over 1,000 EFL Matches Next Season
This upcoming season, Sky Sports is set to bring football fans closer to the action by broadcasting over 1,000 matches from the English Football League (EFL). Whether you support a League One team or follow a Championship club, there will be plenty of opportunities to watch your favorite matches live.
How Many Matches Will Your Team Be On Sky?
Fans can expect extensive coverage with every League One and League Two team guaranteed to be featured live on Sky at least 20 times. Moreover, every one of the 24 Championship clubs will be available to watch at least 24 times during the season.
Where to Watch Your Team's Matches
Matches will be broadcast live across existing Sky Sports channels and can also be accessed through the newly launched Sky Sports+ service. This upgrade will replace the EFL's previous domestic streaming options like iFollow, ensuring fans can easily find their team's matches.
Introducing Sky Sports+
Launching this August, Sky Sports+ represents a significant enhancement to the viewing experience for football fans. Available through Sky TV, the NOW streaming service, and the revamped Sky Sports app, this integration will provide viewers access to over 50% more live sports at no additional cost. With the ability to stream up to 100 events concurrently, fans have greater flexibility in watching their teams.
Do Existing Sky Subscribers Need to Pay More?
No, current Sky Sports subscribers will not incur any additional charges. The new service will automatically be integrated into their existing Sky experience on platforms such as Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q, and NOW. The updated Sky Sports app will serve as a comprehensive platform for sports streaming on mobile devices.
How Non-Subscribers Can Tune In
For those who do not have a Sky subscription, instant and contract-free access to all Sky Sports channels is available through a NOW Sports Day or Month Membership. Starting this August, these memberships will also include every live Sky Sports+ stream and on-demand catch-up content.
Live Matches Schedule
Each weekend of EFL fixtures will showcase 10 live matches. This includes three Championship, two League One, and two League Two matches, all airing live at 12:30 PM on Saturdays. Every major weekend, including the opening weekend, final day, and midweek fixtures, will also be live. Notably, all matches during Bank Holidays, such as Christmas and New Year's Day, will feature in the broadcasts.
Additional Features of Sky Sports+
In a first for fans, this season will also permit viewers to watch every game from the Carabao Cup and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy live on Sky Sports+. Furthermore, matches in League One and League Two during international breaks will be available for live viewing.
Will Fixtures Be Rescheduled for Broadcast?
While some matches may shift for broadcasting needs, the majority of fixtures will remain scheduled as previously planned, maintaining the integrity of the original match calendar.
What About the '3PM Blackout'?
The well-known '3PM Blackout', or 'Article 48', will continue to be in effect, meaning live broadcasts of matches will be organized outside the timeframe of 2:45 PM to 5:15 PM on Saturday afternoons. This ensures that fans can enjoy the thrill of Saturday afternoon matches while preserving the matchday experience.
Stay tuned for further updates and make sure to mark your calendars to catch every moment of EFL excitement with Sky Sports this coming season!
